Mini-excavator, before/after photos, municipal permits accompanied.

Our approach

From shovel to lawn. One job site, clean finish.

Residential excavation is often where things go wrong: a hole, debris, a torn-up property and a bill that balloons. Ultra Excavation was built for the opposite — small and medium residential job sites, clearly quoted, cleanly executed, closed with before/after photos.

Our philosophy: finishing makes all the difference. Many excavators dig. Few backfill, level, seed and come back to validate. With us, that's included in the quote. The client receives their property ready to live in, not a job site to finish themselves.

What sets us apart: mini-excavator suited to residential terrain (less damage to surroundings), camera inspection included on the French drain, complete support for municipal permits and documentary photos at every step.

Frequently asked questions

What we get asked most.

Do you install the complete French drain?
Yes: excavation, 3/4 net gravel, geotextile, perforated pipe, connection to sump pit or city, backfilling. Camera inspection before closing to validate slope and flow.
What are the lead times?
French drain: 2-3 days. Driveway preparation: 1-2 days. Small work: one day. Quote confirmed after on-site visit and soil study. Mobilization delay 2-4 weeks depending on the season.
Do you work in winter?
Excavation stops in November (ground frost) and resumes in April. Emergencies only from December to March (sewer backup, collapsed drain, major damage).
Will the property be left clean?
Yes. Backfilling, leveling, grass seeding on disturbed areas, removal of all debris. Before/during/after photos provided at job site end.
Municipal permits?
We accompany you to obtain them. File preparation, simple plans, submission to the city, follow-up. Variable delays depending on the municipality (1 to 6 weeks).
Do your prices include soil disposal?
Yes for standard volumes. In case of contaminated soil detected on-site, a complementary study and specialized disposal site may be necessary: this is clearly specified in the quote.
How much does a French drain cost in Brossard, Longueuil or Boucherville?
On the South Shore of Montreal, a complete Ultra Excavation French drain starts at $4,800 for a standard house. The price depends on foundation length, depth, site access and soil type. Excavation, 3/4 net gravel, geotextile, perforated pipe, connection and camera inspection included.
When should a French drain be replaced?
Warning signs: basement infiltration, water seeping on the floor, white stains (efflorescence) on foundation walls, water backup around the house, soil saturated near foundations. Typical lifespan: 30-40 years. A camera inspection confirms the actual condition before deciding between cleaning and replacement.
What's the difference between French drain and sump pump?
The French drain passively evacuates water by gravity toward the sump pit or storm sewer. The sump pump is installed IN this pit and mechanically expels water when it reaches a threshold. Both work as complements: drain for collection, pump for forced evacuation if the terrain is too flat.
Is a municipal permit required to install a French drain?
In most South Shore cities (Brossard, Longueuil, Boucherville, Saint-Lambert), yes — especially if the excavation modifies the connection to the municipal sewer or the terrain's drainage slope. Ultra Excavation handles the application, submission and follow-up. Municipal delays: 1 to 6 weeks.
How long does complete French drain installation take?
2 to 3 business days for a standard house on the South Shore, under normal conditions (loose soil, clear access). Count one additional day for clay soil, major roots to navigate around, or specific landscape backfilling. Photos at every step, final camera inspection, clean property return included.
